Wasp head 19x magnification

This is one of a bunch of images I have taken with the SEM, an electronic microscope able to show very high detail at high magnifications.
This is just the head of wasp, the yellow jacket kind, that I happened to find when I should have been doing real research!

Get out. You have access to electron microscopes? Love the things. Most amazing images I've seen have been from one of those beauties. Especially the various forms of everyone's favorite dinoflagellate, pfisteria piscicida. Oops... my nerd is showing. But I'm off to add EMs to my list of things I like on my blog. No, really.

Im glad to hear that man. There is great fun in both SEMs and TEMs. While TEMs take alot more work, there is no way to compare to them once you work for a week and come up with a great image.
To us these microscopes might be what a nice car is to others...

Hi , that's so interesting and amazing !!!!
How about EDS ?!
-
Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy?
I have not done much of that myself, though the scope used here can do it...
I am mostly concerned with the physical shapes rather than the chemical makeup... for now.
Hey ill find a new image to post today, im glad yall like them :)

I do odd jobs :)
I am really freelance, do you need some work done?
:O)
I do microscopy by hobby and also for work when needed. But it is a passion of mine that I have regardless of what I do for a living.
There is nothing more sexy than a nice microscope.
