| Huge stack of money! |
| Monday, March 26, 2007 |
MEXICO CITY -- In this photo released by Mexico's Attorney General's Office (PGR), a large amount of cash, mostly US $ but also Euros and Mexican pesos, is displayed at an undisclosed location in Mexico City. Federal officials seized US$ 205.6 million in cash from a luxury house in one of Mexico's most upscale neighborhoods and said they believe the money was tied to the methamphetamine trade. Seven people were detained as well. (03/20/07)
CHONGQING, China -- Visitors and supporters gather to look at a lone surviving house in an excavated construction site in Chongqing, in southwest China. The owners of the house have defied a court order to move, after refusing an offer of compensation from the site developer. The dispute comes days after China's controversial new property law, which protects private property rights, was approved by the country's legislature. (03/26/07 AP photo/EyePress) |

| IDA - 59 Trimix Rebreather Project |
| Saturday, March 24, 2007 |
This diver purchased an old Soviet rebreather (scuba system that reuses air rather than just rely on a big tank) on eBay and shockingly was able to make it work. This is a fascinating project because of how dangerous and difficult such a project is.
"IDA-59 is a Russian fully closed circuit[see 2.1] trimix rebreather. The original purpose of the device is to be a submarine bail-out apparatus. Maximum operation depth is 300m (1000ft) according to the original manual. This requires an additional diluent cylinder, which is connected to the off-board diluent connector. Without this extra dil cylinder, the maximum operation depth is limited to about 90 m (300ft). IDA is an acronym, which stands for Russian words (in non-cyrillic letters) individual'nyy dykhatel'nyy apparat (meaning "individual breathing apparatus" in English)." BOGOR, Indonesia -- Two Sumatran tiger cubs sleep with two baby orangutans in a nursery room at the Taman Safari zoo in Bogor, Indonesia. The tiger and orangutan babies, which would never be together in the wild, have become inseparable playmates after they were abandoned by their mothers. (02/28/07 AP photo)
DERBY, Kansas -- A car crashed into the side of an elementary school gymnasium in Derby, Kansas on Tuesday afternoon. The car could be seen lodged halfway through the wall of Tanglewood Elementary gym. Fortunately, school had already let out, so no students were around at the time. The school superintendent said that the driver of the sedan had pulled into the parking lot because he was feeling ill. The driver thinks he may have blacked out and hit the accelerator. That driver sustained only minor injuries. (03/02/07 WFTV Image)
XI'AN, China -- A piglet with two snouts and three eyes is posed between mirrors at a farm in Xi'an, in north China's Shaanxi province. The piglet, one of nine born on the farm Sunday, will be sent to a local safari park for professional care. (03/07/07 AP photo) |

| Pope on Coke |
| Saturday, March 10, 2007 |
His Holiness The Pope enjoyed the invigorating properties of coca wine. Leo XIII carried a personal hipflask to fortify himself in time of need. A grateful Pope awarded a Vatican gold medal to its distinguised orginator, the Corsican-born pharmacist and businessman Angelo Mariani. Mariani had a keen eye for the benefits of celebrity-endorsement. |

| Scuba Videos |
| Thursday, March 08, 2007 |
This video takes place in the Pacific on a VERY deep dive. The divers sound so strange because they have helium in their mix which does what we all know it to do - distort your voice. Under pressure this only increases. Helium is a less dense gas, and also less narcotic than nitrogen, making it ideal (and eventually required) for dives deeper than about 190 feet. Why is the water so cold? Well they were very deep, and may have hit some upwelling area along the island were very cold water (as cold as the mid to low 40s I would guess) was found. Now granted these guys were probably messing around, if they were really that cold, they would have probably left.
This video, by contrast, is a dive in one of the Finger Lakes of western NY. It seems that there were two dead bodies, but I do not have the history of this dive so I do not know if they expected to find dead people or were just on a survey and ran into them. One of the divers has CEC on his fins, which might be the name of an environmental consultant company. |

| Huge Sinkhole (Guatemala) |
| Tuesday, March 06, 2007 |

By JUAN CARLOS LLORCA, Associated Press Writer
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala - A 330-foot-deep sinkhole killed at least two teenagers as it swallowed about a dozen homes early Friday and forced the evacuation of nearly 1,000 people in a crowded Guatemala City neighborhood. Officials blamed the sinkhole on recent rains and an underground sewage flow from a ruptured main. The pit emitted foul odors, loud noises and tremors, shaking the surrounding ground. A rush of water could be heard from its depths, and authorities feared it could widen or others could open up.
Rescue operations were on hold until a firefighter, suspended from a cable, could take video and photos above the hole and officials could use the documentation to decide how to proceed.
The dead were identified as Irma and David Soyos, emergency spokesman Juan Carlos Bolanos said. Their bodies were found near the sinkhole, floating in a river of sewage. Their father, Domingo, was still missing, according to disaster coordinator Hugo Hernandez. |

Here are some of the many images from this page. The general idea is that real adult artists imagine what kid drawings would look like if they had the technical ability.
