631 - Club ABC (should pay me for this post.)
Saturday, October 03, 2009
I am thinking about taking one of these trips from Club ABC. Any advice from the more traveled among my many readers? Does anyone out there live in any of these locations? Many of the trips are a bit out of my cost range, and I am also concerned about the excessive guidance that structured vacations offer. However, there are a few good looking deals. One is the Beijing Blowout from $900 for 8 days:

"* Day 1 - Depart the U.S. for China. Cross the International Dateline.

* Day 2 - Beijing: Arrive in Beijing, located in the north and the capital city of China. Beijing is China's sprawling cultural and political center, as well as a central base to many fascinating sites. Few other Chinese cities offer such a concentrated view of ancient and modern China. Your Club ABC Tours host will meet you at the airport and transfer to your hotel.

* Day 3 - Beijing: Begin your Beijing exploration. You can select an optional guided full-day tour of Beijing. The tour features the incomparable Forbidden City, home to two dynasties spanning 500 years. This architecturally stunning 200-acre compound, with more than 800 buildings and 9,000 rooms, houses a vast collection of imperial treasures and cultural artifacts. Visit the Summer Palace, home to China's largest imperial garden. You can also visit Tian'anmen Square, the world's largest public square, and site of Mao Zedong's Mausoleum and the Great Hall of the People. You can also explore the city on your own. (Breakfast)

* Day 4 - Beijing: No visit to Beijing would be complete without an excursion to see the Great Wall, truly one of the greatest feats of human engineering, stretching nearly 4,000 miles long. Construction on the Great Wall began in the 7th century B.C., with final additions completed in 16th century A.D. and was originally built to keep out invaders of the north. You'll also see "Mingshisan Ling" or Ming Tombs, a final resting place for 13 Emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644A.D.). Built into Beijing's scenic foothills, its splendidly carved stone animals dramatically line the road on your approach. (Breakfast)

* Day 5 - Beijing: Today you can continue exploring on your own, or you can select a full day guided optional Hutong Tour, featuring the old back streets of the city and the Temple of Heaven. This masterpiece of Ming architecture, the "Tiantan", or Temple of Heaven, was built for imperial sacrifices conducted on the summer and winter solstices, and is one of Beijing's grandest attractions. Tonight you might want to attend the traditional Peking Opera. (Breakfast)

* Days 6 & 7 - Beijing: Spend two days at leisure in Beijing, visiting imperial sites or shopping at some of the many interesting shops. Enjoy an optional Peking Duck Dinner and Opera Show one evening. (Breakfast)

* Day 8 - Beijing/U.S.: Transfer to the airport for your flight home. Cross the International Dateline and regain the day you lost at the start of your trip. (Breakfast) "

How does that sound?

Beijing sounds like a good deal, checking out Paris or Italy..those seem overpriced even considering the plane trip.

I'd say search a bit more and find out what the exact price will be *seeing that they don't include flying tax in the prices*

If you are going this route, single city for a week is a good way to go. I've been to Pakistan, but never anywhere else in Asia.

I've always wanted to see China. But it will need to wait until the kids get older. Too bad I couldn't make it before they completed the 3 gorges dam and flooded all that land.

    Hello R2K,

Thank you for your interest in Club ABC Tours.

Our Beijing Blowout tour is quite popular among our travelers because of its price and flexibility.

Our tour comes with roundtrip air from New York/JFK starting from $899. Air Fuel Surcharges included. Many of our competitors are selling the land portion only for this price.

The Beijing Blowout was designed to offer a balance between organized touring of the main attractions in/nearby Beijing, and free time to explore the city on your own . Each day you have the option to select a full-day guided tour of Beijing with lunch, or you can explore the city on your own. Guided tours include a "Great Wall & Ming Tombs" tour, a "Forbidden City & Summer Palace" tour, or a "Hutongs (old backstreets) & Temple of Heaven" tour.

You also have the flexibility to spend 2 out of the 6 nights in Xi'an to visit the amazing life-size Terra Cotta warriors, one of the world's most significant archeological finds.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our travel experts. A live agent can be reached at 1-888-TOURS-ABC .
