Burden of proof dealt with in the previous post's comments.

Epicurus is easily dealt with if you do not assume that God is omnipotent and omniscient.

I believe that God is arbitrarily powerful, and arbitrarily knowledgeable, but not a cosmic bellhop that goes around answering prayers and preventing every catastrophe like some overprotective parent.

Rome was not built in a day and heaven won't be built in a single generation of stars. Suffering is regrettable, but an inevitable consequence of sentience prior to perfection. We're only in the first few moments of the first of January. There is a long way to go.

So do you have any evidence for god? Does god have any noticeable effect on the world?

I did laugh at a lot of the above things.

I don't however know why some people put so much energy into disproving there is a god (not meaning the posting of the above btw). But some people just seem to make it their life's task to disprove there is a god. I mean..if you don't believe there's a god..ok ..get on with the rest of your life and enjoy or hate it.

I can understand why there are a lot of people believing in any form of a (or more) god(s), and I don't give them crap about it. I do however give them crap about it if they force me/others to accept things or make decisions nationwide based upon their believes.

The US seems a bit in the 'dangerzone' when it comes to that I think.

Extremism (say extreme evangelicals or muslims or hindu's) is néver the answer, but otherwise it shouldn't hurt anybody.

Arjan, I agree that generally it is a waste of time and energy to prove that god is not real. I dont care what others think, as long as they dont try to force it on me.

Say, for example, if they were to take evolution out of science class, try to teach creationism in science class, print the name of God on my money, and end every political speech (even the most important ones) by saying God bless America.

Since all of the above are true, I do have a good reason to fight back. Religion, Christianity, has been running the world for centuries, and doing a piss poor job at that. Suddenly they cant handle a taste of their own medicine, or I should say simple criticism and reality.

"I do however give them crap about it if they force me/others to accept things or make decisions nationwide based upon their believes. "

I agree, and that is the state of affairs at the very least in my country. Which explains why people like me are actually the more relaxed atheists.

I fall somewhere between Sagan and Dawkins. Others are more blunt and freely insulting at every turn. I am glad they take on that role so I dont have to! :)

Yes I have evidence, or I would not believe.

I am also disturbed by the inclination that some have to press their beliefs onto others. Let God speak for Himself. Religion should stay out of law, but not necessarily politics.

There should be freedom of speech and religion, so I don't understand why you would object to someone saying "God Bless America". But I agree that it is silly (God doesn't take orders, and is not aligned with politics or nation states).

As for God's measurable effect on the world, I believe that this is intentionally minimized. It is important for us to develop independently right now.

You dont understand why it bothers me that the president says God Bless American to end his public speeches? Or why our money says in god we trust on it?

Imagine if it said Allah bless america. Or Buddha, or Zeus. Suddenly I wonder if you would be so supportive.

If you feel this way, I have an invisible dragon to tell you about. It lives in my apartment. You can google to find out more about him.
